"This painting shows the Red River and the melody of the fiddle played by the Metis to unite and stand up for their identity. The beadwork shows the connection of the colours of the sky, the earth, the sun, the sea, and the Creator. The sashes' red colour shows the bloodshed of the Metis fighting for their rights, the blue represents the depth of our spirits, the green shows the fertility of the Great Nation, the yellow for the prospect of prosperity, and the black symbolizes the dark period of the suppression and the dispossession of the Metis land."
